MUST READ: How God Used Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo To Change My Story - Gospel Singer, Chris Morgan

One of the greatly anointed and most influential voices in Nigeria's gospel music industry, Chris Morgan recently shared the story of how the Senior Pastor of Kingsway International Center (KICC), London, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo discovered him while he was still struggling as a music minister and gave him a world-class stage in London.

The singer in a post celebrating Pastor Ashimolowo's 65th birthday revealed how the preacher sponsored his very first trip outside the shores of Nigeria which changed his life, career and ministry.

His words: "The first man to take me across the shores of Nigeria.Few years ago in Abeokuta @bishop Achudumes victory life bible church,my path crossed with this patriarch, A great HERO OF FAITH.

"I was still trekking and singing 'Arabaribiti' everywhere I was invited, jumping from one Okada to another, from one bus stop to connect another, my path was dark my faith was failing me, but after the encounter, God lifted me from the ground.

"I appreciate Bishop Achudume who gave me his platform and shared so much about me with him. It was a morning service while I was ministering Pastor ASHIMOLOWO walked in and for that moment couldn't hold back his tears as he wept before God in worship.

"When he came up to take the microphone, he immediately announced that I (Chris Morgan) will be with him that year at the International Gathering of Champions in London, England.

"The crowd couldn't hold back their excitement as they profusely cheered and clapped in appreciation of what God did through Pastor Ashimolowo, I on the other hand felt so homoured, it was like a dream come true.

"He sponsored my crew, my wife and I to London, England for the first time. I bought my first car immediately I came back, God graduated me spiritually & physically to another level.

"Today I celebrate this grace for the great impact & influence he had in my life. A man who believed so much in me when I was still trekking, went back to London and published me everywhere on TV.

"Celebrate this icon for helping others in fulfilling their own divine assignment. I am forever grateful to you and to Abba Father for bringing you my way.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PATRIARCH Mathew Ashimolowo.

God Must Intervene!!! Benue State Govt Declares 7-Days Fasting, Prayers Over Herdsmen Attacks

God Must Intervene!!! Benue State Govt Declares 7-Days Fasting, Prayers Over Herdsmen Attacks

The Benue State Executive Council has approved the declaration of seven-day prayer and fasting for God to intervene in the attacks on Benue communities by Fulani herdsmen.

The prayer and fasting period has been scheduled to commence tomorrow and end on Thursday, 23rd March, 2017 from 6am to 6pm daily.

The council, presided over by its chairman, Governor Samuel Ortom, made the resolution  as an initiative to pray for peace in the land and seek divine wisdom in handling the herders and farmers crisis.

It also resolved to summon stakeholders’ forum to deliberate on the crisis.

The council reiterated its support to the State House of Assembly to conduct public hearings on the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Bill, Prohibition of Abduction, Kidnapping and Secret Cult Bill as well as the Road Traffic Authority Establishment Bill.

It would be recalled that the governor had earlier directed security agents to ensure the exit of Fulani herdsmen out of the affected local governments for peace to reign.

The governor also requested the security agents to arrest those responsible for the brutal killings of innocent farmers in the state

MUST READ: Open Letter To Governor Ortom On Fulani Herdsmen Terrorism By Josephine Akioyamen

MUST READ: Open Letter To Governor Ortom On Fulani Herdsmen Terrorism By Josephine Akioyamen

READ FULL LETTER BELOW:

Your Excellency,
The Executive Governor,
Benue State.
Dear Sir,

Fulani Herdsmen Terrorism - The Way Forward

I feel sorry that you have to visit yet another scene of the needless murder of our people by Fulani Terrorist herdsmen. It must be repetitively gruelling and heartrending to you by now. It was only a year ago, that the seminal event in Fulani herdsmen terrorism occurred in Agatu in which 500 of your constituents were killed in their sleep, about 8 communities levelled to the ground and their lives destroyed. Since then, we have had other attacks in various parts of the state resulting in more deaths. All of these are still raw and etched into the frontal lobes of our brain. Please accept my sympathies.
However, one constant in these attacks is the near absence of will on the part of the Federal Government to bring this terrorism to its knees with the same ferocity with which it is pursuing Boko Haram in the far North. Instead, what we get, is excuses. If the Federal government is not insinuating that the herdsmen terrorists are foreigners and not Nigerians, it is trying to set aside monies in its budget, (N940 Million at the last count) to establish grazing reserves for the alien Fulani marauders to cure the mischief of what it termed 'Herdsmen/Farmers Clashes' or import sweet Brazilian grass for the self-same alien invaders.
Never once had the federal government ever given a thought or crafted a policy of resettlement, rehabilitation and recompense for the victims of such attack even though they are citizens of Nigeria. It is as if the Federal Government of Nigeria cares more about aliens than the citizens which the head of that government sworn to defend or protect from internal or external foes. It is even more painful that the man who is saddled with the policy of establishing Grazing Reserves for the alien Fulani is our own brother Chief Audu Ogbe. One would have thought he would know to broach the issue of compensation for the victims in the hallowed hall of power in Abuja. But this is not to be.
As it is now, the People and Government of Benue is left with the burden of not only protecting its residents but also forking out money from its near-empty treasury to resettle, rehabilitate and compensate the victims of what is turning out to be carefully planned genocidal attacks against the people of Benue. And in this, your government has so far been unable to effectuate your plans because the state is broke.
In Agatu, for example, in a place where about N 2 Billion Naira is required to compensate, resettle and rehabilitate the victims, your government has only been able to make a payment of N30 million to Agatu, with N10 million out of that sum coming from a man most Benue people regards as a facilitator (whether wrong or right) of the Fulani onslaught. The paltriness of this sum is not because you do not have the desire to settle the displaced victims of these attacks, it is because you lack the resources to do so. This is where the Federal Government should have stepped in to fill the gaps as it is doing for the 'alien' Fulani marauders.
Even though I find your call for the Federal Government to step up to the plate, after the attack on Mbalagh in Buruku that resulted in the murder of 6 members of the community, refreshing, however, like others before, it is likely to go unheeded. It should be clear to you by now that the Federal Government do not care about the victims of the Fulani herdsmen terrorist attacks, for doing so will buck its standard track of not acknowledging the existence of the Fulani Terrorism despite overwhelming evidence and in spite of its unenviable position as the second most deadly terrorist organization in the world after Boko Haram.
You should ignore the Federal Government and use the constitutional measures within your powers to bring this Fulani Terrorism under control at least in Benue.
It is a good thing that you have before the State House Of Assembly, a Bill to prohibit open grazing and for the establishment of Ranching in Benue State. Before this bill is passed you need to articulate clearly how you are going to solve the immediate problem of Fulani Grazing that, more often than not, results in killings. The people has to be told that Ranches do not grow overnight. They should be alerted to the fact, that you may need to use the instruments of state to acquire lands; that need to be enclosed; facilities put therein, and rented out to the herdsmen for a fee (if this is the model we want to implement). All of this may take all of two to three years to complete.
You need also to let the people know as clearly as possible, the sacrifices you need them to undertake under the Bill. It must be made clear that to solve the immediate problem of Fulani terrorism, the Ranching Bill in and of itself without more, will not be able to achieve this and therefore, that you crave from them, some wiggle room to be able to designate certain lands, in the interim until ranches kick in, as grazing area for the Fulani. For if you do not do this and quickly too, you will continue to encounter a revolt from the people like it happened in Agatu when the Ad'apati Island was purported to have been ceded to the Fulani. You can't blame the people for this because of the bad blood the Fulani terrorism has generated. They need to understand clearly what you want to do and why you are doing it. They need to be carried along every step of the way otherwise, that bill before the House of Assembly will be doomed to failure.
Another thing your excellency can do very quickly is to get the Benue House of Assembly to amend the Penal Code Law of Benue and make the possession and control of arms and ammunition by Fulani herdsmen, a terrorist offence with a very tough penalty. You have, through the office of the Attorney General, the prosecutorial power to prosecute anyone suspected of having committed this offence.
You also have the power to strengthen the Vigilante or create a special Corp (much like the Sharia Police in the Far North) to arrest anyone who is in breach of the amendment to the Penal Code and when the Prohibition of Open Grazing and Establishment of Ranches is passed, to enforce it when it kicks in. You also control some prisons. You do not require the Federal Government help to succeed in this.
This will achieve two things for you. It will display your willingness to take on this Fulani scourge head on and thus win the trust of the people. Second, it will send a message to the marauders that it is not business as usual in Benue so as to make them have second thoughts about brazenly carrying out their attacks in this state.
I hold firmly to the view that if anyone is to solve this crisis sir it is you. I believe in your capability and in your expertise to do this. You have my highest esteem and regard.

According to Love, Maranatha said a man who appeared to be the leader of the gang entered the room and selected the victim to be used for his rituals.

“All this while, they were not eating, but on that particular day, a man came into the room with a staff and he just placed it above the head of a victim and the staff made a weird sound, but when it came to Maranatha’s turn, the staff just made a small sound and it kept shaking and shaking, so they slapped her and said she should be taken away,” she narrated.

She continued, “She woke up to find herself at that same spot where they abducted her. She woke up to find herself lying on the ground and so she took a bike home,” Love added.

She disclosed that the spot her cousin was abducted is notorious for kidnapping, and that a number of sympathisers phoned to inform her about the high incidence of abduction around the area.

Love said her cousin was molested, but noted that she was recuperating.

Dear Peace of mine,
Today is exactly a month to our traditional and I would like to appreciate you for bearing a lot since I invaded your privacy.
I shouldn't be this lucky, my hands are described dirty, my wahala plenty but my love is heavy and I am abundantly crazy.
The good deeds of mine will remain invisible as Matthew advised in chapter 6:3.
They speculated everything about me until my life was shattered and no meaning was expected from it. They expected me to bury my head in shame but the radiance of my clean hands kept my head afloat the pit they chose to bury me in, non of them have any proof, never been to a cell except for the limbo my ego ended me in. So, I arrived early, had success looking at me like I wasn't expected, had my goodwill and efforts credited to ambition I am labelled to with what is expected. I am not disappointed only because the kaya I left behind, I don't regret them.
Mfamasia became a brother, then a gold digger and destroy me familia with criminal propaganda. Papa's home isn't dysfunctional, he's a Knight in a Roman Order, do not mind under whatever formation of geese he tries to destroy us please, what we have is bliss, he runs but no one is after him, I have you Peace because I forgive.
For over 7yrs, Mfamasia continued in his quest to tarnish my image, for 7yrs, he has expected my reaction but I disappointed him, he told so many lies and made me enemies to many who never saw the true heart of mine.
So, I placed my neck on a stick, gave them a knife to rip me apart if they have a reason to but no one made a move. I sleep good no nightmares, except for snoring friends from where my dream is surrounded.
I am never bothered about the many fingers gearing towards me, I am futuristic, fighting for the farmers in Orokam whom are forced to subscribe and pay for Genetically Modified Crops pollinating their farms, I am on a different level baby. I have been building the lost children a home let's build our own.
Today is exactly a month to our traditional and I would like to appreciate you for bearing a lot since I invaded your privacy.
Yours truly,Achinji

We Have No Land To Cede To Herdsmen In Benue - Orker-Jev

We Have No Land To Cede To Herdsmen In Benue - Orker-Jev

Member representing Buruku Federal Constituency of Benue State, Emmanuel Orker-Jev on Sunday called on Federal Government to provide adequate security for the people across the state in order to forestall the spate of attacks by Fulani herdsmen on innocent Nigerians, including women and children.

Orker-Jev, who doubles as chairman, House Committee on Rules and Business, gave the charge while reacting to the recent attacks on Mkovughur village in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State.

It would be recalled that the Fulani herdsmen who were armed with guns and machetes reportedly invaded the community last Friday, unleashed terror on the villagers, leaving several people injured.

The Benue lawmaker, who made the clarion call in a chat with Legislative Correspondents, noted that the state could not afford to cede any area to grazing considering the spate of terror unleashed on its people.

“This is one killing too many” and the people of the state will not fold their arms and allow herdsmen to exterminate their people,” Orker-Jev, who doubles as the chairman of the House committee on Rules and Business said.

While stressing that the killing of a monarch and six other persons by the herdsmen was unacceptable, the lawmaker promised to sponsor a motion when the House reconvene on Tuesday to officially register the dismay of the Benue indigenes to Federal Government.

“This is one killing too many and to us it is unacceptable. We cannot pretend that all is well when our constituents are being massacred by a group of blood sucking individuals. Our people are hospitable and peace loving but what they get in return is the loss of precious lives. We can no longer take.

“I am therefore calling on the federal government to take decisive actions in bringing the perpetrators of this dastard act to justice and also provide security for our people.

“Recall that recently at his installation, the Tor Tiv, His Royal Highness, Professor James Ayatse reiterated the position of the state to the effect that we do not have land to cede to herdsmen; and if this is their response to the declaration of the Tor Tiv, we urge the federal government to look into this issue with utmost concern because our people cannot fold their arms and allow the herdsmen kill all our constituents,” Orker-Jev warned.

Orker-Jev lamented that inspite of the hospitality of the people of the area and the state to the Fulani herdsmen, the brutal and inhuman activities toward the people of Benue state can no longer be tolerated.

The lawmaker said the presence of herdsmen had prevented residents from going to farms for fear of being killed.

His words, “The implication is that farm crops are being destroyed, farmers perpetually afraid to visit their farms. I have repeatedly drawn the attention of the federal and state governments to the brewing crisis and imminent danger in the area and nothing has been done.”

Speaking on the recent killing of a soldier in Agatu, Entonu urged security agencies to ensure thorough investigation into the matter, saying the perpetrators of the dastardly act must face the full wrath of the law.

BREAKING: 'Mad Lion' Loses House Of Reps Seat To Hon. Hassan Saleh At Supreme Court

BREAKING: 'Mad Lion' Loses House Of Reps Seat To Hon. Hassan Saleh At Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has upheld the election of Hon. Hassan Saleh as the authentic PDP candidate for the Okpokwu, Ado and Ogbadibo Federal Constituency in the 2015 general elections.

Both Abah and Saleh have been in a running battle over Ado, Ogbadibo, Okpokwu constituency of Benue State.

Recall that a Federal High Court in Abuja had in May 2015 ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to withdraw the certificate of return it issued to Christian Abah for presenting a forged certificate before it.

Not satisfied with the verdict, Abah, otherwise known as Mad Lion approached an Appeal court, which on February 7, 2015, mandated Saleh, representing Ado, Okpokwu and Ogbadibo Federal Constituency to vacate his seat.

But Saleh had earlier refuted it, stressing that the Appeal court did not mandate the Speaker of the House to swear in Hon. Abah, in his stead as wrongly held in some quarters and he subsequently proceeded to the Supreme Court.

The apex court in its judgment on Friday confirmed that the respondent, Abah truly presented a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The court, therefore, declared Saleh as the authentic lawmaker representing the constituency.

God Gave Me A Divine Mandate To Execute His Counsel, Lead With Fear In Benue - Ortom

God Gave Me A Divine Mandate To Execute His Counsel, Lead With Fear In Benue - Ortom

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has disclosed that God told him 25 years ago that he would govern the state.

While describing his ascension to the governorship seat as divine, Ortom said God mandated him to be transparent, fair and just while overseeing the affairs of the state.

In a chat with Daily Sun, the governor said he had been finding it difficult to account for what the immediate past administration led by Gabriel Suswam achieved.

Recalling his first encounter with God, Ortom said, “God told me that I would be governor; that was in 1992, but I was waiting for my time until 2012, when God told me it’s 2015, so I started work.

“My aspiration was divine, I am not just coming in for the sake of contesting and winning election; I have a divine mandate, to execute the counsel of God over the land, to lead with the fear of God, and that would translate to transparency, equity, fairness, justice, accountability, honesty, selflessness, discipline and integrity in governance.

“Those are the core values that had been missing, and you see everything upside down in Nigeria. If we have those values, things would work well.”

On why many projects are left undone in Benue State, the former Trade and Investment Minister said, “You see, it is difficult to account for what the past administration did; I wasn’t there, we are still studying the situation up till today.

“But the truth is that we came in, we saw that there was need to upgrade facilities; there was dearth of infrastructure in the state. We came with the sole aim of reviving the state, and we think we have the capacity despite the paucity of funds.

“So, whatever we are able to do, prudently, we get into it; those structures you saw, we would come to them as soon as we get funds.”

Man Who Sat On Tor Tiv's Throne Sentenced To Four Years In Prison

Man Who Sat On Tor Tiv's Throne Sentenced To Four Years In Prison

A 30-year-old man identified as Stephen Nyitse, who sat on the Tor Tiv’s throne shortly before the new king was installed on Saturday in Gboko, Benue State, has bagged four years imprisonment.

Nyitse was handed the sentence yesterday after being convicted by a Chief Magistrate Court presided over by in Gboko by Justice P.S Chaha.

The court held that the convict was guilty of trespass and impersonating the new Tor Tiv, V, Orchivirigh Professor James Ayatse.

The prosecution had earlier told the court that the police from the Criminal Investigation  Department arrested the convict at the J.S Tarka stadium, the venue of the coronation few hours to the coronation proper of the newly installed king for sitting on the chair already prepared and kept for the paramount ruler to sit on his arrival at the arena.

According to the prosecution, the convict made confessional statement to the police during interrogation that he was under an evil spell to do what he did on that day.

The trial judge, Justice Chaha, described the action as a disgrace to the Tiv nation for which he deserved no mercy, and sentenced him to serve as deterrent to others.

According to reports, Nyitse had caused a stir at the JS Tarka Stadium in Gboko when he walked up to the stage, beating the supposed protective attention of vigilante security operatives, and sat on the throne prepared for the Tor Tiv who was yet to arrive for the event.

He had told newsmen after being caught by security operatives that he was sent by God to sit on the Tor Tiv ‘s throne shortly before security operatives whisked him out of the venue for further interrogation.

The throne was later anointed and prayed upon by clerics before the arrival of the Tor Tiv who took his turn to pray alongside his wife before mounting the seat.

God Has Been So Partial To Me - Olusegun Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that God has been very partial to him.

OBJ said “God has been so partial to me by showing me much favour to achieve what I didn’t deserve. God has done for me much more  than I deserve. I praise God and I thank God for this.”

Obasanjo said this at a thanksgiving service organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) branch in Ogun state.

The ceremony was to mark the 80th birthday of the former Nigerian President coming up on March 5, 2017.

The former President also said Reverend Desmond Tutu advised him to contest in the 1999 presidential election.

According to him, “ When I came out from prison for an offence I didn’t commit and people started putting pressure on me to be Nigeria’s President, I was confused but in that confusion I sought advice. I went first to Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu.

Mandela said Olu, whatever your instinct tells you, follow it.”

In his remarks, the Ogun state Governor, Ibikunle Amosun who was represented by his deputy, Yetunde Onanuga, said he is proud to have OBJ as a citizen of Ogun state, adding that he is an exemplary leader.

This song has also spurred Ogecha to champion The Intentionally Woman Campaign focused on celebrating women - in Nigeria, Africa and the rest of the world - who are achieving exceptional feats in their various domains, and using their stories to inspire and motivate other women to take the steps necessary to unleash the genius in them.

Ogecha’s songs are a rich assortment of both indigenous and contemporary sounds such as the soul-stirring Dumimaja, Brand New Thing, Your Word, My Promise, among others, all listed on her debut album, All For You, officially released in 2011.

In 2014, she released the music video of her song Dumimaja, an outstanding work of art that has received several nominations including the AFRIMA 2015 nomination for Best Female Artiste in African Inspirational Music.

Our Girls Cannot Find Husbands, Reduce Tiv Bride Price - Eunice Ortom Begs Tor Tiv

Our Girls Cannot Find Husbands, Reduce Tiv Bride Price - Eunice Ortom Begs Tor Tiv

Wife of the Governor of Benue State, Mrs. Eunice Ortom, has appealed to Tor Tiv-elect, Prof. James Ayatse, to review bride-prices in Tiv land, to enable young men get married “when due”.

She made the appeal on Tuesday, when she paid a courtesy visit to the Tor Tiv-elect in Makurdi.

She decried the high demands made on young men seeking to marry Tiv daughters, and described the situation as “very discouraging”.

“Such high demands discourage many bachelors from even attempting to get married; the result is that many young girls cannot find husbands,” she said.

The governor’s wife argued that such exorbitant charges were not part of Tiv culture.

“Such charges are imported; our traditional rulers should discard them,” she said.

While noting that bride-price payment was sacrosanct in every marriage, she cautioned parents against selling their daughters “especially since the relationship between in-laws remains, long after such marriage rites”.

She regretted that many young men now preferred to elope with their loved ones owing to such huge monetary demands, and stressed the need to make the process affordable so as to restore the sanctity of the marriage institution.

Mrs Ortom pledged her support to the new monarch, saying that his emergence was an act of God that would bring unity to the Tiv nation.

Responding, the traditional ruler promised to work toward a united Tiv nation, and promised to be truthful, transparent and promote the fear of God at all times.

He also promised to uphold valuable cultural practices and repeal negative ones.

Ayatse decried the politics of rancour and acrimony in Tiv land, and promised to reconcile Tiv sons and daughters toward building a united front.
Leave Peace Corps alone, Youths caution Nigerian Police

Leave Peace Corps alone, Youths caution Nigerian Police

By Yemi Itodo

A youth based forum under the umbrella of National Youths Democratic Congress (NYDC), has come hard on the Nigerian Police Force, for meddling with the lawful activities of the Peace Corps of Nigeria.

The Police authority in Kwara State, had on Friday, shut down the official camp of the Peace Corps, alleging that proper permission was not taken from the Command before embarking on the training.

Also, on Sunday, the officials of the Nigerian Police disrupted the Bwari camp, where the Peace Corps of Nigeria was training its staff officers in Abuja, discharging the cadets to go back home.

These recent developments prompted the reaction from the NYDC, which described the onslaught on the Peace Corps as "administrative recklessness" on the part of the Police.

In a statement signed by the group National Secretary, Comrade Wisdom Obekpa, the youths accused the Nigerian Police of playing "vindictive politics with the future of Nigerian youths".

"This is nothing but cheer wickedness! The Nigerian Police is playing vindictive politics with the future of Nigerian youths. Anyone working against the future of the youths is an enemy of the youths.

"To the best of our knowledge, the Peace Corps of Nigeria has been engaging the youths on volunteerism and nation-building activities for almost 2 decades. We are also aware that, there are series of court judgements standing in support of the orientation programmes of the Corps. Why the sudden onslaught?

"This recent show of administrative recklessness on the part of the Police must stop. Our members across the country who apply for Police enrollment always find it difficult to scale through. We know how it is done in Nigeria, but Peace Corps has helped to break that hegemony of middlemen and godfatherism. Now, they are reacting negatively", the statement reads in part.

While advising the security agencies to always respect the interests of Nigerian youths, the group also encouraged the Peace Corps of Nigeria and other youth based bodies in Nigeria, not to relent in helping to reshape the orientation of the youths.
